Today’s GamePlan Hint is about Man-to-Man Coverage Techniques to use with your Defense.
Man-to-Man Coverage is the distance between the defensive coverage man and the intended receiver in anticipation of the receiver’s pass pattern type.
Tight Coverage
Tight coverage is best for defending simple routes. Tight coverage increases your chance of getting an interception, but also increases the chances that the receiver will turn a short pass into a long gain.
Strength: Against one move pass pattern.
Weakness: Against three move pass pattern.
Neutral: Against two move pass pattern.
Medium Coverage
Medium coverage is a conservative coverage, which gives no real advantages or disadvantages.
Strength: Against two move pass pattern.
Weakness: Against one move pass pattern.
Neutral: Against three move pass pattern.
Loose Coverage
Loose coverage is best for defending complex pass routes where the Receiver is making two or three direction changes.
Strength: Against three move pass pattern.
Weakness: Against one move pass pattern.
Neutral: Against two move pass pattern.
